Beginning June 3rd, 2019, the Mexican government requires one’s HS Code (Harmonized Tariff Code) be included on your NOM Safety Certificate. This affects the following NOM Certificate categories:
- NOM-001 (Household Electric Appliances)
- NOM-003 (Electrical Appliances)
- NOM-019 (Data-Processing Equipment)
If your Mexico NOM Safety certificate falls under the above categories, and does not include this information, one needs to reapply and obtain a new certificate to includes this information immediately. There is no grace period for having this information on your certificate. Any shipment going into Mexico must include your NOM certificate with required HS Code information noted; if this information is not included, your shipment will be stopped by Mexican customs.
