Indian MeitY has announced the transition from the following BIS Standards:
- IS 616:2017
- IS 13252 (Part 1):2010
to updated standard:
- IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 (Audio/Video, ICT Equipment – Safety Requirements)
Transition Timeline (Important Deadline)
- BIS has allowed a concurrent running period until November 1st, 2028.
- During this period, both old and new standards will remain valid.
- After November 1st, 2028:
- IS 616:2017 and IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 will be withdrawn
- Only IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 will be applicable
Products Impacted
This transition affects a wide range of electronics covered under the CRS Scheme, including:
- Servers – ADPM’s
- Laptops
- Televisions
- Printers & Scanners
- Power Banks
- CCTV Cameras
- Smart Speakers
- Wireless Headphones
- Webcams
- Amplifiers
- Other ICT equipment
What Existing License Holders Must Do
To ensure continued compliance:
- Mandatory transition before November 1st, 2028.
- Submit complete test reports for lead models from BIS-recognized labs.
- Apply through the Standard Revision/Amendment module on the BIS portal.
Important: Failure to comply after the deadline may lead to license cancellation or model deletion.
Once successfully implemented, BIS will issue a confirmation letter listing all compliant models.
Additional Requirements for Specific Product Categories
For certain products, compliance with additional standards is required along with IS/IEC 62368-1:2023:
- IS 18112:2025 → Televisions
- IS 16333 (Part 3):2022 → Mobile Phones
- Security Essential Requirements → IP-based CCTV Cameras
- If applicable: Submit complete test reports for these standards
- If not applicable: Submit a signed declaration along with the main test report
After November 1st, 2028, no new licenses will be granted under the old standards
