As of July 1st, 2017 the Taiwanese Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) required applicable products entering the country to comply with a new RoHS requirement. The products affected by this new requirement can be found in the table below:
The new requirement can be found in Section 5 of Taiwanese standard CNS 15663 titled Marking of Presence. This requires the manufacturer to submit a Declaration of Presence indicating the status of compliance with the RoHS requirement. This Declaration of Presence must be submitted to BSMI in order to obtain or maintain a BSMI certification. See below for example Declaration of Presence.
For existing BSMI certified products, the BSMI mark on the product must be revised to indicate conformance with the RoHS Marking of Presence requirement. Examples of the new marking are as follows:
“RoHS” under the identification number: indicates the content of restricted substance(s) does not exceed the reference percentage value of presence condition. “RoHS(XX,XX)” under the identification number: indicates the content of restricted substance(s) (element XX, element XX, … ) does exceed the reference percentage value for each element specified.
Example:
• RoHS(Pb ): indicates that the lead percentage content in certain parts of the product exceed the reference percentage value of presence condition
Any existing BSMI certifications for products which fall into one of the categories illustrated in the table above, that have not been updated to the new RoHS requirements, are now obsolete.
