India BIS has announced a new update to Portable Lithium-Ion cell and batteries, currently covered under India Standard IS 16046 (Part 2).
Due to several instances of incorrect declarations of rated capacity and to safeguard consumer interests, MEITY has mandated testing to measure the rated capacity of sealed secondary lithium cells and batteries.
Beginning May 1st, 2027, testing to new requirements is required to keep your India BIS certification valid. If test reports issued by a BIS-recognized third-party laboratory to Clause 7.3.1 of IS 16047 (Part 3) are not provided, you risk the removal of products from your India BIS certification, as well as suspension and cancellation of your India BIS license.
Existing registrations will remain valid until their expiration, however, any model selected during surveillance testing must undergo verification of the declared rated capacity.
