Japan PSE Certification Service

Japan PSE Mark Certification Services

General Information:

The PSE mark is a mandatory certification mark required for many electrical appliances and materials entering the Japanese market.  Products requiring the PSE mark fall under two categories regulated by the Japanese Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law (DENAN). These categories are Specified Products (Category A) which include 116 products, and Non-specified Products (Category B) which includes 341 products.

Specified Products listed under Category A must be PSE certified by a METI authorized third party certification body. These products must display the “Diamond PSE” mark. The validity period for “Diamond PSE” certification may range from 3 to 7 years depending on the product type.

For Non-Specified Products listed under Category B, compliance is still required, but registration may be done through a qualified certification body or compliance may be self declared by the manufacturer. Category B products must display the “Circle PSE” mark which may be self affixed and does not have an expiration.

For products which do not fall under PSE category A or B, Manufacturers may choose to apply for the voluntary S-Mark. The S-Mark is used to show conformity to Japan’s DENAN law which is beneficial in showing due diligence to providing safe products on the Japanese market.

We have found that often times certification bottlenecks can occur within a manufacturer’s organization.  As a result, we offer a service to provide internal help managing regulatory certification tasks.  Because G&M is not a certification body, we are in a unique position to offer valuable regulatory expertise without any conflict of interest issues.  In such cases we place G&M certification experts into our customers’ organizations to manage the certification process for them.  Once on the inside, our managers can leverage G&Ms collective experience to guide certification processes in an efficient and cost-effective manner.  To learn more about this service see our Homologation Management Service Page.
Untimely expirations of certificates can cause delays in product deliveries.  Re-certification of products will generally be treated as new submittals instead of certificate renewals.  This can be time-consuming and costly.  G&M provides a web-based certification tracking system that alerts users when expirations are coming, provides on-line storage of important certification documentation, and is searchable by certification specific criteria.  For more information on this system see our CATS page.
