As the spectrum becomes more fully utilized, there is increasing probability of interference among users as well as electronic equipment malfunctions that result from electromagnetic fields (EMF) radiated by a wide range of devices. Research to enable the prediction of near and far field radiation from UHF/VHF portable radios, such as cellular or Personal Communication Service (PCS) telephones, is a primary focus. Measurement of EMF to ensure levels conform with Health Canada's standards is of critical importance. In addition, research is conducted to establish EMF tolerance zones for the operation of electronic equipment.
